FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Can anyone be an author?

Yes, I believe that anyone can be an author, especially if they have someone to guide them through the process. If you have a message or expertise or story that you feel you NEED TO SHARE, I will do everything I can to help you become a successful author.

Why can’t I just write it and send it to you?

You can, but it probably will not be as powerful as we could make it together. Those who write books without expert support usually end up with a larger editing bill than they planned…and that’s IF the editor they choose even looks beyond the spelling and punctuation to make sure their content is effective.

If you are a professional hoping to brand yourself as an expert, don’t you want to make sure you deliver your expert knowledge in the most effective way possible? If you’re going to use this as your “golden business card”, don’t you want to make sure your reader gets everything they can from the book and then contacts you for your services?

How long does it take to write a book?

Most people can write a book in twelve months or less, but the timeframe really depends on how much time the author can commit to the task alongside their current personal and professional responsibilities.

How long does it take you to edit the book?

Turnaround time depends on a number of factors: The type of editing required (extreme content editing takes much more time and collaboration than a basic copyedit), the number of projects I’m working on, and the author’s deadline. Depending on your particular needs, the project could take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete. I can give you a more accurate time and cost estimate once I see your writing project.

Do you guarantee your work?

You will be hard-pressed to find people who will care about your message, its delivery, its power, and its polish more than we will. My team and I are committed to personal and professional excellence, and we work with authors until they are satisfied with the finished product. I do not guarantee that every final draft will be error-free (because we’re human too), but if it’s not, it will be darn close.

Do you work on fiction or non-fiction?

My niche and expertise is more in line with non-fiction work, although I have helped several fiction writers. When someone needs more than I can give them, I refer them to one of my favorite colleagues who happens to be a genius novelist.

Are you a ghost writer?

I have written books for authors before, but I prefer to support authors with coaching services. And I only take on ghostwriting projects with messages that resonate with the mission of True to Intention  to inspire, empower, and support individuals along their personal and/or professional journey.

Do you recommend self-publishing or sending a proposal to a publisher?

Self-publishing isn’t for everyone, but it is a great option for many. For that reason, I hesitate to provide a general answer to this question. I do, however, support my authors with the resources and connections I have to help them decide which course is best for them.

Can I really make money self-publishing?

Yes. And depending on who you are, you can make A LOT of money. First of all, when you self-publish, you make more profit per book than you probably would with a publishing house. More importantly, if you are an entrepreneur or professional writing about your expertise, your book will not only provide an additional stream of income, it can DRAMATICALLY IMPACT YOUR BUSINESS’S BOTTOM LINE! I have clients who have figured out how to leverage their books as “golden business cards” whose businesses have exploded because someone read their book, recognized the fact that they know what they’re talking about, and then HIRED THEM TO DO WHAT THEY DO BEST. For some, that has meant tens of thousands of dollars in contracts.

Do you have resources for marketing and publishing a book?

Yes, I have resources that will get you moving in the right direction.

Are you a book agent? Do you know an agent?

No, I am not a book agent, and I am not affiliated with any at this time.

Will you send my book to a publishing company for me?

I will direct you to the resources you need and help you prepare your book proposal, but you will be responsible for sending it to the publisher.

Do you create the book covers?

No, but I know some GREAT graphic artists. And many of the printers and self-publishing companies provide book cover development as part of their service.

Do you do the marketing for the book?

No, I do not market my authors’ books (except by word of mouth when I find someone who should read their book and on my website and online author community). Whether you are self-publishing or going the more traditional route, you will carry most of the responsibility for marketing your book. However, I do support my authors as they prepare a marketing plan for their book proposal or book launch, and I’m connected with several people who can help them handle those details.

Do you format it for a publisher or printer?

Yes, I can make it publish-ready for a printer if you decide to self-publish. If you are working on a book proposal, I can help you with the format for that as well.

Do you work on screenplays?

I can offer my copyediting services, but I do not work on the content.
